We are using a subdomain of the University of Vienna. The Data Protection Declaration (orig. Germ.: “Datenschutzerklärung“) is therefore published by its Computer Center.

Some additional information can be found underneath.

Participation – Registration Form

Underneath the registration form we refer to this privacy statement and ask for your consent to the following statement:

I consent to the University of Vienna to collecting, storing and processing my personal data.

We collect, store and process your personal data for the following purposes only:

  • financial administration,
  • statistics and
  • for the organisation and implementation of this Summer School (which for example includes updates via email)

Your data will be deleted as soon as the purpose of the processing has been achieved and unless there is another legal retention period. You thereby declare that you have been informed about the information obligations (right to information / correction / deletion etc.) in accordance with Art. 12-21 of the General Data Protection Regulation and have taken note of them. Also you declare that this declaration of consent is made on a voluntary basis. You are also informed that you can revoke your consent without damaging consequences for you at any time informally with effect for the future. You can address your declaration of revocation to:

In the case of revocation, the University of Vienna will delete the data stored by the University of Vienna and any processors.

Poster Session – Abstract Submission Form

We offer the possibility to use an upload form on our website to easily upload your abstract. Underneath this form we provide the following information:

The personal information you provide on this page are only used in order to link your abstract with your registration.

We do not use the personal information you provide for any other purpose.

Statistics and Server Log Files

Every time you visit this website it will automatically store the following information for statistical reasons:

  • ID
  • Date
  • Referred by
  • Target site

In direct comparison with statistics services like Google Analytics and Piwik, we do not process and store any personal data such as IP addresses – we use “Statify”! This plugin counts views, not visitors. The storage takes place in a database provided by the Vienna University Computer Center for a maximum of 30 days. This data is only used to optimise the website by showing top targets as well as top referrers. The Computer Center of the University of Vienna also stores web server log files themselves. Find more information here or in the above mentioned Datenschutzerklärung on page 13.

Share Buttons

On this website we offer you the possibility to use so called “Social Media Buttons”. To protect your data, we use a solution called “Shariff”. Hereby the share buttons are implemented as static images, which contain a link to the corresponding social network site. If you click on such a button, you will be redirected to the respective social network site in the same way, as normal links would do as well. Only in that moment of time the provider of the social network site will get information about you, for example your IP address. If you do not click on such a share button, no data will be transmitted. Information about the collection and usage of your data on the social network sites can be found in the corresponding terms of use of the respective provider. For more information about the Shariff project itself check out the original GitHub project and read about the project on their c’t information page (in German).

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, maps, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Also we use a Twitter service to display a hashtag button on our website. Before your browser loads files from Twitter’s servers needed to display the button we ask for your consent to the following statement: “I agree that content from Twitter will be displayed to me.” Only after you click on “Yes, I agree!” these files will be loaded. As a result, our website makes requests to Twitter’s servers in order to display the button. These requests make your IP address visible to Twitter, who may use it in accordance with their data privacy policy. As our website does not store cookies in your browser you will have to repeat this step everytime you want this button to be displayed.

Additional information

How we protect your data?

We try our best to keep your data safe with us by choosing only strong passwords and the encrypted https:// protocol for all website traffic. We have to remind you that the internet of this century still isn’t a safe zone at all. Latest research publications have shown – even industry standard encrypted email communication like S/MIME or OpenPGP is not secure at all (see so called “Efail“). However, please note that due to many vulnerabilities in the structure of the internet itself it is possible that the rules of data protection and the above mentioned safeguards are not observed by other persons or institutions not within our area of responsibility.

What data breach procedures we have in place?

As mentioned before the Vienna University Computer Center is not only hosting the database but also the server infrastructure itself. Physical safety shall be guaranteed by them. Whenever we get to know a data breach ourself we have to inform you and the following Data Protection Authority of the University of Vienna within 72 hours. This data protection commissioner decides on the further procedure.
